Hikers on South Twin in Winter - White Mountains, New Hampshire

On a sub-zero February day, two hikers descend the above treeline 4900' summit of South Twin Mountain. In winter, this peak is fairly remote, about 8 miles from the nearest open road. The reality of winter hiking in the high peaks of the White Mountain is that they are often socked in and windy. They are not a place to linger. After all the hard working of climbing them, the hiker must retreat after just a few minutes of enjoying the goal of the day.
