The Promised Barred Owl

My kids love science as part of our curriculum. I told them if we learn about the preferred habitat and habits of animals we can find them. It felt like a big promise. We learned that Barred Owls mate in early to mid-winter, rarely leave a 6-mile radius in their lives and prefer forest at river land bottoms. With that in mind I took them on a walk in that environment at the end of a cloudy day. On the return trip we saw this Barred Owl in a tree at close range! What a moment to share with them. They were excited to write in their nature journals afterward.
