March: Beaver Emerging in Spring, New Hampshire - 2023 Natural New England Calendar

March sounds like spring but it is still winter for us in New England. However, usually by the end of the month there are some warm days, and some open water can be found melting in ponds. When this happens, beavers get active outside of their lodges are more tolerant of people than usual. Humans also are getting busy with spring projects and plans. The phrase “busy as a beaver” seems to fit both species in New England!
