September: Swamp Maple on Fire, New Hampshire

In September the leaves start to change, first across the far northern reach of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Even if you are not that far north, check the edges of ponds and you will often find swamp maples turning earlier than the rest of the forest. This beautiful tree was growing at and angle over the pond and catching the last bit of the day's sun while the forest behind it was already in shadow.
